A panniculetomy is a surgical procedure performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. It involves the removal of hanging fat or skinﾗusually accompanied with or followed by major weight-loss surgery. The panniculectomy surgery generally takes place thusly: after being admitted to a hospital or an out-patient clinic, the patient is given anesthesia. Then, the doctor makes an incision from the top of the stomach area to the pubic area. After another cross-incision is made, the surgeon removes the excess fat and/or skin. The remaining skin is stitched together surgically. Tape is then applied to the incision areas. In total, the panniculectomy surgery takes several hours. Patients are required to stay at least one night at the hospital afterwards.
