Tummy Tuck Costs and Price

More Tummy Tuck Surgery Information

Shopping for tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery is not like shopping for a car or a house. It is not a commodity and you cannot expect standard set fixed cost. The cost for a tummy tuck can vary by hundreds and even thousands of dollars, depending on the type of tummy tuck procedure you want to have and how extensively you want to change your current body contours.

General Price Range

Many plastic surgeons are hesitant to quote prices in broad strokes, as tummy tuck costs can vary from patient to patient. Each case is different and there is no boilerplate to determine what will the surgery will entail. That said, the price can vary anywhere from around $3,000 to around $10,000.

Reason for Variation

The variation in expected cost is the product of a number of factors. These include the patient’s needs and anatomy, the exact type of procedure (for example, full tummy tuck vs. mini tummy tuck, the region and location of the surgeon’s office and demographic composition of his or her clientele, the facility at which the procedure is performed, and whether the procedure is combined with another procedure, such as liposuction, butt lift, or thigh lift.

Types of Tummy Tuck

A complete, or full, tummy tuck usually starts with an incision from hip to hip just above the pubic area. Then, another incision is made to free the navel from the surrounding skin. The skin is then detached from the abdominal wall and muscle fascia wall is tightened with sutures. After that, the surgeon removes the excess tissue and closes the defect and tightens the remaining skin and fat.

A partial, or mini, tummy tuck involves smaller incisions. The skin and fat of the lower abdomen are detached in limited fashion. The skin is stretched down and excess skin removed. The belly button stalk may be divided from the muscle below and the belly button moved lower on the abdominal wall. A portion of the abdominal muscle fascia wall is then tightened, and liposuction is typically used to contour the transition zone. After all that, the flap is stitched back into place.

Combinations

An extended tummy tuck is a complete abdominoplasty that extends all the way to the fronts of the thighs and flanks (sides). There are also combination procedures, and a tummy tuck can be combined with liposuction contouring, breast reduction, breast lift, and occasionally hysterectomy, depending on the reason for the hysterectomy.
