Growing Number of Hispanics Pursue Plastic Surgery

Friday March 27, 2009

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of Hispanic patients seeking cosmetic surgery has grown almost as fast as the growing Hispanic population in the United States. Last year, the number of Caucasian plastic surgery patients dropped 3 percent last year. However, the number of Hispanic plastic surgery patients rose by 19 percent.

Because of the steady immigration of Latino individuals into the United States, as well as Asians and Africans, surgeons are now required to understand the ethnic concerns for a more diversified clientele. For example, Asian patients tend to have a great deal of work done to their eyes. Rhinoplasty is popular among African Americans and butt augmentations, breast implants, tummy tucks and liposuction are the most requested procedures from Hispanic patients.

Surgeons must be sensitive to the desire for non-Caucasian patients to retain their ethnicity, but also to address their specific needs and concerns. For more information about cosmetic procedures, specially tailored to ethnic minorities, talk to your local plastic surgeon today. He or she will be able to explain the options that are available and help determine the best combination for you.
